Scotts Miracle-Gro launched a community outreach initiative in 2011 called GRO1000. The purpose of the initiative is to create 1,000 community gardens and green spaces by 2018.
Four cities, including Oakland, are vying for a grant to fund a local community garden. The Lowell Park Market Farm, in West Oakland, is one of the candidates.
“Through the creation of an intergenerational community garden and farmer’s market, the Lowell Park Family Market Farm aims to revitalize West Oakland, an area challenged with limited access to healthy produce and poor health among its residents. The intergenerational garden will engage local youth and adults in educational programs and job training, while providing fresh produce to area residents at an affordable cost.”
I urge you to go to the following website and vote for the Oakland community garden:
The rules allow you to vote daily through February 9th to help Oakland win. I just voted and now I’m asking you to do likewise. Thanks in advance for helping to create a much needed community garden in West Oakland.
Keeping Oakland Beautiful (and healthy) is everybody’s business.
