During the month of April, the Bret Harte Leadership class sponsored a Litterati contest. Litterati was developed by local resident, Jeff Kirschner, as a visual way to photograph, report, and remove litter. More specifically, participants find a piece of litter, photograph it using Instagram, hashtag the photo “#litterati,” then throw the litter away. Since the pictures are geotagged, visitors to the Litterati website can see where a specific piece of litter was picked up!
Students who participated during the month of April were entered into a contest to win a cash prize for “Best Photo” and “Most Litter in One Photo.” Additionally, the student who took the most pictures will win a prize. Photos will be displayed during Expo on June 1st. There will also be a display of Bret Harte Litterati photographs at Dimond Library beginning in June.
Since Bret Harte is the first school to participate with the Litterati project, we want to encourage the entire family to get involved. Please visit www.litterati.org for more information. This is a great way to keep our communities clean and have fun at the same time!
