In order to quickly respond when a beautification intervention is needed somewhere in Oakland, Keep Oakland Beautiful (KOB) is introducing the ‘KOB Flash Mob.’
The KOB Flash Mob may be called upon to spruce up a park or creekside; clean up after a protest; plant flowers or trees in a public area; paint a tagged wall; create a community garden; or perform some other beautification activity. All KOB Flash Mob events will be immediately followed by a brief recognition activity, so we can show our volunteers our appreciation of their efforts to Keep Oakland Beautiful.
We expect to organize a number of these events throughout the year, but we need your help and civic spirit to make them succeed. If you’re interested in volunteering to be a KOB Flash Mobber, please send us an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know of your interest, providing your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address.
Keep Oakland Beautiful will compile a list of all interested KOB Flash Mobbers and we will send those volunteers announcements of specific, upcoming KOB Flash Mob events. In each announcement, we will provide information about the date, time, location, and work to be performed and we will indicate how many volunteers are required.
Interested KOB Flash Mobbers will be asked to respond to the event announcement e-mail, expressing their interest in participating in the upcoming event. We will select the necessary number of volunteers needed for that event in the order of e-mail responses received (‘first come, first served’).
To maximize community involvement, volunteers who participated in a previous KOB Flash Mob event and want to participate again will have their names held on a list separate from the ‘first come, first served’ list. We will try to fill the volunteer pool for upcoming projects using KOB Flash Mob volunteers who have yet to participate in a KOB Flash Mob event (the first come, first served list), in order to give every interested volunteer a chance to participate.
If we don’t receive a sufficient number of volunteers on the first come, first served list, we will then refer to the list of interested KOB Flash Mobbers who have previously participated, in order to generate the complement of volunteers we need to help with that event. So, if you’ve already been an active KOB Flash Mobber, please continue to express your interest in future flash mob events. While we will attempt to create broad inclusion, we may be calling on you more than once.
We think the KOB Flash Mob will be a fun and satisfying way to help Keep Oakland Beautiful. We look forward to your interest and participation as well as making new, civic-minded friends in our community or reconnecting with old friends.
Keeping Oakland Beautiful is everyone’s business.
