Join the Board
KOB is an all-volunteer board, and like you, we all put a lot of time and energy into making our neighborhoods and our city a more clean, green, beautiful and litter-free place. We see our work as a powerful tool against blight and crime, and it overlaps with a lot of other great things too, like food access — community gardens and urban agriculture are one of the many things gaining traction in Oakland right now.
Here’s an example of a recent urban ag project of ours: The Verdese Carter community garden in East Oakland at Bancroft and 98th Ave. We are grant writing and partnering with Parks & Rec, the Police Activities League, Acta Non Verba, Grow Your Oakland, and several other committed individuals in the community to revive and expand the community garden there, and to provide an instructional/educational component that will allow people of all ages (and the children at the rec center, under the supervision of the Police Activities League) to “own” plots of garden space and learn how to plant and cultivate edible crops. We are very excited about this.
We also developed an anti-litter campaign with the support of $150,000 worth of in-kind campaign development by Campbell Ewald, one of the largest ad agencies on the west coast. I’m sure you’re aware of our ongoing programs like the Great American Cleanup and Adopt-A-Spot–and of course the annual Daffodil Day bulb distribution. I’d love to see someone with your passion and energy working with KOB to make good things happen.
Finally, I’d like to ask you to like KOB on Facebook: Keep Oakland Beautiful http://on.fb.me/uwTIsh
